I have been cycling a new tank with this Jager 200W in the sump, I put a rubber piece I had from a old heater on the end so nothing hot is touching the plastic on the sump. I'm just wondering if using a heater this size is going to adversely affect bacterial growth on the bio balls or if anyone has had other problems with doing this. The tank sits in a warm part of my house so the heater easily keeps both the tank and the sump at 77. with no heater in the tank, so I would like to keep running it like this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks:)008.JPG

i see no problem. i think the added moisture and heat in the bio ball area would actually be better for bacterial growth.

warmer is better for bacteria growth. i use a 200 watt jager in my acrylic sump. its on the mount it came with and i've never had a problem. keeps 130 gallons of water at 78 without problems.

Thanks guys, I figured the heat would be beneficial. I had a 150W in there for a day but it never turned off to keep the tank at 77, so I'm trying this one to keep from burning out the heater. Just thought it looked like alot of heater for the space.
