I have a 3" albino channelcat in a 20gal. but growing fast. My question is.. When he/she gets a little bigger would I be able to put it in my main tank? It's a 180gal. with a Tilapia Butti. Lima cat, bellycrawler pike, Nile bichir. 16" Fire eel and a pack of silver dollars. lemme know. I only wanna keep him in there till after winter then he goes in a neighbors pond. Do you think It'd be ok or would he inhale all my other fishies?

depends on how big your other fish are. Sounds like they are all a little larger. If you were to put him in right now I would be more worried about the channel than the other fish. I don't think he will get big enough within a year to pose a major threat to your other fish. How big are your other fish? The fire eel should be fine. if the other three are over 1 ft they should all be fine also. Be carefull of the lima unless larger, because of their slim build they are easier for larger fish to swallow. I seriously doubt the channel will get big enough by the end of winter to pose a threat though. Hope this helps.

All my other fish are are of good size and I was more worried about the Channel gettin ate! Also aren't channels cold water? It was sold to me out of a tropical temp. tank. just curious on that also. Dont want to hurt any of them.
Here is a pic or two of my tank. I have much larger tanks also so tank size isn't an issue; yet! LOL
The aro is gone now.

The channel should be fine in warmer waters. I have a stonecat from the cold waters of the mountains in montana in a tropical tank with water temps of 85 f. for 6 months now. He's grown an inch, and is fat as can be. I'd say your channel would do fine.

Channels are very adaptable. It should be fine with the warmer temp. But it might be too much of a shock to throw it out into the cold after being in warm waters for months. It moight not survive the winter.

don't you know that channel catfish breed during cold/spring weather? It is due to clean water when the snow melts. (in the wild.) It goes for the same as alot of other fishes that live near the northen U.S.A.

I'm saying that it's going from nice wram waters (80ish degrees) to cold winter waters (40ish - 50ish degrees) in a day. Water tempture gradually increase and decrease through the weeks. It doesn't jump in a day let alone a few minutes :grinno:

I would definately acclimate him first.

Well I put him in my big tank last week and he's doin great! He likes to bumpinto the other fish and seems to like tempting fat with my T.butti, but all others stay well away from it if thay can. I cannot believe how fast that lil sucker can grow! :WHOA:
