If you get a school of crappie (say about 5-8) and have a large fish tank. Is it possible that they will be a active schooling fish (Such as silver dollars, minnows, etc.)? I mean Crappie's are usually caught in schools. I believe if you have a tank big enough, the crappies can be a active school fish. Has anyone ever had more then 2 or 3 Crappie that was active schooling fish?

I dont think they will be actively swimming as a school, but maybe stay in one spot. Most of the time we catch all of them in one spot by the cattails. :D You should try to catch the really small ones and see if they school.;)

I had 7 four inch crappie once. They schooled but weren't active. They just sort of hung out in different spots. They were in a 135.

They certainly will school, but they're more retiring. Think more along the lines of less inquisitive angelfish or discus as far as activity levels are concerned.

ive kept crappie before in a tank they definatly school but tend to hang around any verticle structure in the tank, like i had a log they loved to cling to
