question about barbs....

so my rays are now aprox. 7 months old and i was just wondering
what to look for when they are ready to shed their barbs?
the barbs have easily doubled in length since i got the pups. do they
turn white(skin peeling off of them) before? will i see a second barb
before the old one is gone?

Typically you will see a second barb, and it will be almost fully grown by the time they drop the 2nd barb. They don't usually turn white until the barb is dropped.
