About a month ago I purchased 6 biotodoma cupidos from Wetspot and wanted to add another 3-4 to round out the group. They were about $10.00 each (WC) and since then TWS hasn't got any more in stock. I came across another vendor that has Biodotoma cupido”Rio Itaya," however, they are 30.00$ each ( also WC). Is this a rarer collection sight, is that why there is the price discrepancy? When I purchased the group at TWS, the collection sight wasn't given so I am assuming this is the difference in price. I dont know... any thoughts?

It would be difficult to know this unless it was a honest reputable vendor but tbh the collection point will sometimes impact price.

Hi Amy
I agree with the last 2 posts.
Some cupids show much more orange on the flanks than others do, I can't remember which ones they are off the top of my head.
I was looking for some cupidos a few months back and I also found a staggering difference in prices.
I sometimes think it just depends who you are buying from more than it does difference in catch locations .

I hate to say it, but a lot of fish are pond/farm raised in South America and those are usually cheaper than fish that are fished from the rivers. Their numbers are much greater and they’re easier to net and bag. That has a lot to do with it.

I didn't realize that, I assumed that if they were wild caught that it meant they were collected and not scooped up from a pond in South America. Wow!

Semantics, right? Technically if they’re caught as fry and grown out in outdoor ponds, or if wild fish are spawned in outdoor ponds, and they’re in the same country where they’re collected, I guess they’re still technically wild. ;)

Semantics- true, and naturally quite different than the image my mind creates when I think of fish as "wild-caught". Language is a tricky thing isn't it? ;)

Im thinking I might order a few to see if there is any differences. He also has tocano tetras that I have been unable to find these last few months. He is a reputable dealer, Jeff Michaels @ Aquatic Clarity-- has a lot of rare, smaller fish- characins, corydoras, apistos, etc...
