Hi was hoping some one could help me with a question i have a male blue acara and a female blue acara in my tank as well as a red jewel and some other cichlids i have noticed my female blue is hiding behind one of my heaters lately facing down at a hole that was dug out and my red jewel is chasing all the other cichlids away with his bright breeding colors showing (i had a female red jewel that died and he had fry with her before) i was wondering if my jewel and acara are possibly spawning together. So if any one knows if this is possible can ya inform me what to expect from a breeding blue acara?

Is it normal for a female blue to seclude herself from the rest of the tank?

Completely. My female who is paired off, particularly, will often find a nice quiet place (generally behind a rock with a bit of room next to the glass) where the only way she gets found is if something is actively hunting her (doesn't happen). She'll stick there a day or 3 and when she's had enough time to herself, she'll come back and be part of the community again.

This is my experience anyways, she does this at least 1 time a month and nothing ill has happened to her to date, and she has some of the boldest colors, aside from her big fat male partner.

ok cause i am just worried that some one was attacking her but she is the dominant female in the tank so it threw me off she hasn't eaten in almost a week ether so i dunno what to do.
