Hi,
My Amphilophus Amarillo which is 14 inch is about to breed with a 10 inch Midas female. They just started liplocking and digging in the gravel.
As excited as I am about this, I want this female to get huge as well, especially since the Amarillo is still growing.

I have a spare 300 liter (80 gallon?) tank. So would I seperate them so that the female can get bigger? Or would this breeding not effect her growth since she is already 10 inch.

Thanks

i dont think it will hurt anything, im sure in the wild when ever a female is ready to breed she will... I would have to assume that they would breed even younger then your female... Furthermore, Wild species seem to get alot bigger then tank raised species...

Just a guess

Well once they start breeding they focus their energy on breeding, not growing. So their growth will slow down but not stop.

Agree. Considering she is already 10" her growth has probably already slowed down considerably anyway. If you're looking for a beastly female and want to separate them so it takes another year rather than another 2-3, then by all means separate them.
