Question about cuban cichlid

Okay I have a male Cuban it was blue then tonight I looked at him he was black and white do they change colors to the black and white for spawning or is it normal colors

Mine changed colors when he started to get bullied he was real dark and lightened back up when he took control.

He doesn't get bullied he isn't even the smallest fish in the tank he is a bully to my 6 in Freddy and he is only 4 in

Yeah, they do change colors. In fact, when any type of cichlid is in a fight(battle)they change colors. Completely normal, sometimes cichlids change color because of their mood.
