hi guys iv just started the process of cycling a new tank and iv put some old filter media in my 3 drawer trickle tower. Iv never tried cycling my tank this way before so i was just wondering what i should be seeing, its two days in now and iv put a small shoal of giant danios in so im getting low levels of ammonia and it kind of looks like i might be getting very low levels of nitrate (not quite orange on the api test kit but not yellow either) there is zero nitrite. so how quickly will a tank cycle using old filter media? its a 125g uk tank

it was just a bag of ceramic noodles, probably about 50 in the bag. I wasnt to sure exactly what to do, so i didnt want to go piling media in and risk ruining it. should i add more or leave it now?

should be complete in about 3-5 days. Keep testing!

What was the stock in the previous tank before you took the media out?

Well the more bio media added the better it will be in setting up the tank as far as cycling. But even adding more may not make it any faster. It will just do better in keeping your numbers in check.

cichids in the tank before, not an overstocked tank but certainly not empty. should i be getting traces of ammonia or maybe even nitrite at some point? is it like a mini cycle? sorry for all the questions guys

from my own experience you may see some ammonia and nitrates for a week or 2. Some time in the middle there you may see some nitrites that will disappear in a day. The more seeded bio material the better.

could just do with a bit of info guys? put some seeded media in my new wet dry on my new tank, this was about 4 days ago, it has been about 0.25 ammonia for about 3 days now with no movement, i thought i might of had a trace of nitrates yesterday but iv checked today an thats at zero. at this stage what should i be seeing guys and why is my ammonia sticking at 0.25, surely it should be raising as there are 5 giant danios in there being fed, is it the old media holding it there??
