I have a pair of Doviis that are 10.5" and 8",they have laid eggs twice now and both times were unsuccessful due to the male not fertilizing the eggs.Does anyone know if it maybe takes a few times for the male to do his part or if there's anything else that needs to be done? They were in a tank with other fish before where they had to fight for territory but I recently gave them a tank of there own so maybe that will help.Anyone have any similar situations? The females actually laying eggs again as I type! Here are some pics....Thanks

Now that they have their own tank they will get it right. No distractions. Sometimes it happens with inexperienced males. But it will happen. Nice pair. Male has a nice nuchal hump already.

That's what I was thinking,thanks...

It took mine about 7 or 8 tries to get it right.

My female is bigger than your male, and my male is 18 inches, they have been together for 20 months..............it takes some time with some males.

nice strong looking male you have

Thanks,he is a beast! As for the 7 or 8 times, that would suck but I guess it's worth it in the end.She finished laying all of her eggs so we'll see in the next few days. Here are a few pics from today...

Also, the male looked a little more involved this time and was "shaking" over the eggs over and over again, hopefully that was him doing his business...

Great pair and good luck. Im goin thru the same thing with mine. he's 11 and shes 7. they laid 3 times and this last time it looked like half were fertilized and on the night of day 3 eggs started dissapearing and no babies:( so im frustrated now.

Well, out of the 1000 or so eggs,it looks like only 30-40 of them got fertilized but since it's only their 3rd attempt,I'm happy I got any! The male must've had bad aim I guess...
