I have a tank that is drilled on the bottom. I has a 1" and a 3/4" bulkheads. Which one should I use for drain and return? They are fairly close to each other and I was think I would build an internal overflow around them. Do I need to put a separator in between the return and drain? I will take a picture of the setup asap and post it to give you a better idea. This type of filtration is totally new to me. I have read quite a bit about wet/dry, but I can find limited info on the return/drain setup. :irked: Also my tank is a 60 gallon cube 24x24x24. What size tank should I use for the sump? Also is there any good info on building a plywood sump? I have very limited space under the tank, so if I can build something into it that would be easiest.

i would say you want the bigger diameter pipe for the drain and smaller for the return

Thank you for your answer. I know just need to figure out how I am going to build and fit a sump in my stand and also what size pump to use. 60 gallon tank that is 24" deep with a stand that is 24", with a total height of about 4ft.

Usually you build a sump that is 1/3rd the size of your tank you are filtering, more is obviously better. Make it a w/d tower
