Question for the Pond experts..

One, I am going to bury down my 150g rubbermaid stock tank. I have a Harbor Freight 1500g per hour pump. I want to take my 45-50g round pond I got at lowes and bury that above the stock tank. I will run a line to that from the pump. What size whole and pvc fittings should I use to make a return back down the the stock tank. I might use a black "waterfall" as a return. I want to use the upper tank to put in grating and filteration with plants on top.

Two, Anyone who has used the "GHETTO" ponds with pacu's have you had problems with the Pacu's nibbling the liner. I had 2 pacus in my 150 growing them out when my heater failed one night and lost them to extreme cold. I would love to get them back but want to know about them nibbling. If not they are better off left alone for me.

Thanks

Is the pump going to be plumbed from the bung on the 150?

A small stream can be made from a small piece of liner between the two tanks. A 1.5-2" hole in the above bog filter should be big enough. It can always be made larger if the pump is pushing to many gals.

:headbang2Wahoo!!!:headbang2 New pond!

With that pump, you'll get about 1/2" of water flow in those waterfalls/rapids.

If your putting holes in, I'd go with 2 three inch pipes for good flow and little chance of blockage.

.

Only time I've had Pacu nibble the liners is when they were very hungry and were trying to eat algae from the sides, but didn't harm the liner. Keep their diets healthy and keep them amused and you should be ok. (mine plays with the turtles when he gets board of his wiffle ball).

Thanks to both of you. I ordered the middle pool from the other link. I need square where I am at. I like the fact of being portable so if a hurricane threatens I can use my spare 100g stock tank as a backup inside and take it down. Then reset it up after a storm.

FYI to people for heating. Lowes carries the solar blankets for pools I want to say 16' by 32' was 99.00 for those who need them. Saw them today.
