Question about fancy guppies?

Are you suppose to add salt to a fancy guppy aquarium? If so, how much per gallon?

When I asked my pet store, I was told only to add salt if the guppies are sick, but I read on the internet to add 1 tablespoon for every 5 U.S. gallons. Which is right?

Guppies can do well without salt. No need to add salt. Your petstore is right in telling you about the salt. It's not often I hear them giving correct advice which most people even around forums fail. Use salt only for treatments against diseases such as ich.

Yes adding one tablespoon for every 5 gallons is a good idea to keep the fish healthy. Salt is also good as a medication. I always have at least 16 ounces of aquarium salt in the house at all times for my fancy guppies.
