Howdy all; my polypterus tanks is getting going, and I got my first true predatory fish the other day as well - an African Leaf Fish. my question is this, my friend raises wax worms for his fish, i know they are to be an occasional treat, but do they provide nutritional value as well or are they just fatty?

They are around 74% fat, 23% protein and 3% carbs. I do feed them say once or twice a month as a treat, my Oscars love them. I'd personally just use them as a treat now and again.

I feed a lot of my juvenile cichlids/predators wax worms and other live insects. While they are still juveniles I offer them live insects usually once or twice a week and they are all doing well. As they get older I reduce the amount of live food I offer them. I find that insects are very nutritional and are actually preferred by most predator species. NLS fish food makes a formula called “Insectum” that uses various insects to form the bulk of the nutrition. One such insect that they use are silkworms which are very similar to wax worms.
