So i have decided to move on from angelfish and try some cichlids. I just dont' know how this group would work. I already have 2 green severums and 2 gold severums. Would like to put tiger oscar, albino tiger oscar, jack dempsey and a blood parrot together. Would there be any issues with this group? Tank is 75 gallon with penguin 200 and aquaclear 110. 2 peices of drift and some slate tile to create some caves for them. All starting as juveniles. I know the tank is smaller for those fish, but have plans to go bigger in about a year. possibly 200 gallon.

The only problem I see in this scenario is in a year the oscars will reach 12". That's a whole lot of waste in a 75g. Try the other fish and then AFTER you get the 200g go get those Oscars.
Btw, Angelfish are cichlids too. :-)

Ya I know but are they really! wink wink. Don't get me wrong I love angelfish and do quite well with them alone but when it comes to adding anything else the options are slim. Didn't know that the oscars grew that fast. I've heard that the BP can get quite aggressive but wanted some bright color for the tank.

Angels are in another tank until i decide if I want to keep them, the cichlids will be in the 75 together but the angels will never go in the 75 again unless its an angelfish tank only. Haven't had much luck with other fish and angels. Only thing I have been able to keep with them sucessfully was gouramis. What I'm looking for is problems between the oscars, severums, JD, and the blood parrot or if I should scratch the oscars and get a red devil instead?

I've wanted to do a semi-aggresive/aggressive tank for quite sometime but always had angels and couldn't. Since i lost most of my angels due to bad info from the LFS on the severums I have decided to give the remaining 2 angels a home of thier own or take them to another LFS that knows thier stuff.

devils are okay when little but at the 6 inch mark ..... they shift into a whole other gear, i have 12 inch devils and i have to seperate if you want mild mannered, devils are not the way to go,

but.......... there are millions of choices...
and +1 on removing oscars out of the equation.. they are no good in a tank that small, very hard on the bioload

Blood Parrots get along with most anything that doesn't fit in its mouth or is more overly aggressive than it. I have kept several together with Oscars and no problems. In smaller tanks they can be aggressive when they are younger but tend to mellow out as they get older.

I know oscars are dirty fish but I really like the personality they get when older and the colors and patterns on the tigers are really nice. What other fish would you suggest for a 75 with the remaining fish? Looking for something with vibrant patterns or lots of color.
