I've been looking for different things for my DIY plywood tank, then I came across something that made me wonder. I'm not sure if this would work at all, but somebody listed a piece of glass on craigslist. It's from a sliding door and is "sealed double paned" glass.

It doesn't say the thickness, so I emailed to ask....but would something like this work in a plywood? If so, that'd drop the glass expense way down. :)

I'll give you a 5'x7.5' piece of glass to use as a lid.

Locally that type of glass has a total thickness of 6.3mm it is essentially 2 x pieces of 3mm glass with a layer of 0.3mm laminate sheet in the middle. So its like using two pieces of 3mm glass.

What size ply tank did you have in mind? For a small build it may work.

Also keep in mind that cutting that stuff is not the easiest thing in the world, you need to melt the plastic layer between the sheets with spirits or something similar to get it to cut, it can be tricky.
