Ok i read that it probably isnt a good choice to put a betta in with fancy guppies because it may confuse them with being another betta. Has anyone experienced keeping bettas and guppies together? I am questioning whether to add a betta to my fancy guppie tank. Thanks

I've had a betta with fancy guppies. They were actually the first fish I've ever kept :D I had no problems. However, my friend put his betta with some guppies (not fancy) and the betta tried eating them, but they were a bit small.

i have the betta in its own tank next to the guppie tank and he seems interested in them but never shows aggression..he just watches them. My fancy guppies are almost the same size as my betta in length (minus betta's finage)...well the females are. I am thinking he may go after the male because of the fins, confusing it for another betta. But I guess I could put him in there and watch for any aggression and take him out if there is any..

Yeah...just give it a try and yank him out if you see anything.

well....i put my betta in there.. he is showing no agression but my guppies are just trying to attack my bettas fins. gah. oh well for that idea. back to his old home he goes.

Thats strange, Ive had a particularly NASTY red betta actually eat a small non-fancy guppy and proudly swam around his tank with its tail sticking out of his mouth! I didnt know guppies would attack back! Those beautiful fins are never safe I guess?

guppy fry control?

diffidently agree with this if your looking to keep the population of your guppys breeding under control then the Betta is a great choice. but if you want to keep the fry or are trying to breed them you will want to put the Betta in his own tank.
