im planning to buy the jehmco heater controller ETCI-1R

http://jehmco.com/html/temperature_controller.html

im going to need to raise the tank temp about 20 degrees f above room temp in the winter.

i will have 800 watts of heat in the tank.

i already have 4x 200watter heater. or should i but 2x 400watt heaters?

which choice would be more efficient in maintaining a stable temperature?
or would it be the same since its a total of 800watts either way.
i know the 4x 200watts would have more redundancy.

redundancy is always a good thing. You would have to look at the power per btu (if they even give it) to find out the efficency one way or the other.

As far as which would maintain tank temp, i don't think it matters one way or another.

If you have the 4 200's i would just go with them. If you havn't bought anything the 2 400's is probably cheapper

800 watts is already twice what is needed.

Heater Guide:

If you need to raise the temperature of a 55 gallon tank 15 F, simply use the guide below to find out what wattage is needed. The corresponding wattage is 190 watt, therefore you would select a 200 watt heater. For me, my downstairs theater room may get down to 60 at night for my 75 gallon. Therefore a 300 watt heater is used.

That is off the box of my Auqa Heat 300 watt heater. It appears to be accurate but I would say still a little high.
