I posted this in disease and health as well
Our cold tap water gets very cold in the winter. We are on a well. Out of curiosity we tested our hot water for copper. There was none to my surprise. Is there any other heavy metals or harmful stuff that could be introduced from using warm tap water to get the right temp for water changes? so far we have been filling the bath tub and adding boiling pots of water to warm it up

ive been using warm water, nothing has ever gone wrong in my tank and my fish are fine..

Do you drain your water heater annually? If not, drain it twice to clear out sediment and you'll be good to go (since your on well water).

By the way, how's the phosphate/mineral levels in the water?

Ive never drained it. I guess I should. No clue about the phosphates and minerals. How do you check for that?

Test kits and call your local health department (or CDC) and agricultural extension office. Ask if the do testing or have information on your area.

Or you can have it tested yourself, either one should be able to tell you where to do that.

Do you have problems with algae (especially after w/c's)?

No algae problems in our 2 biggest tanks, but a couple get considerably more brown alea than the biggest ones. Probably from the lighting tho. Thanks for the info
