Recently i have picked up a a load of equipment (filters etc) and im fairly sure that the previous owner had ich in their aquarium as i found ich medicines along with fungus medicines. But the equipments which i obtained hadn't been used for a very long time.

My question is can ich survive on equipment by staying dormant and then infect the next tank it comes in contact with?

Not to my knowledge. My understanding is that they need a host to survive, not to mention water. Like lice on humans. But I may be wrong.
that sounds right 2 me i would jus rinse it real good 1st

I don't think ich can be carried on the equipment and I'm not sure that it transmits at all. It has been my understanding that the ich is already on the fish and they break out when placed under stress. I could be wrong.

yeah that does make plenty of sense but with ich its always better to be safe than sorry lol

Ich cannot survive for more than 2 days without hosts or even dried. Your equipments should be fine for use. They have no dormancy period. There has been a myth about them going dormant and it needs to be debunked completely. They can stay as low lying infection as long as there are hosts (fish) around otherwise they simply starve themselves to death.

Fish lice (argulus) on the other hand have a much longer lifecycle which is why powerful treatments such as trichlorfon and dimilin are needed. Dimilin can destroy their chitin filled shells thus making the lice far too vulnerable to the toxic effects of the treatments.
