question about midas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes im pretty sure they can, you just have to make sure that any resulting fry do not go to someone who will try to sell them as pure midas or something if they look like it, and you can search for midas/red devil characteristics there are MANY MANY threads on this issue, bottom line pretty much is though that if you didnt get it from a reputable source then you cant reliably call it one of the other and shouldnt sell any resulting fry as pure

midas got that big ugly head. rd are a little more sleeker, w/ big ole lips lol

Amphilophus Citrinellus or Midas have smaller lips and bigger, more rounded bodies with more pronounced nuchal humps. Amphilophus Labiatus or Red Devil are more slender with bigger lips. They look almost the same when young and 90% of the fish available in LFS (especially petsmart, petco, etc) are actually a mix of the two species. It can be labeled "true midas" and still be a mix of the two.

If you want a pure specimen get it from a proven reputable seller here such as jeff from tangledupincichlids.com.

And yes they can breed with Flowerhorn... they're one of the original species used to make flowerhorns decades ago.
