I have to move my current cichlid tank to my new apartment. My plan is to put my fish temporarily in a small 30 gallon tank for a few hours untill I take the big 110 g tank to the new appartment to fill it up. I will be useing the old filter and bio on the tank that I'm moving my only concern is will the tank have to be re cycled if its not connected for a few hours? What's the worst that could happen during this move? Any thoughts? I plan on moving them next week.
As long as you keep the bio material wet, you should be ok. I would also try to use as much of the original water as possible.
When I move, I will also use the fish / bucket approach, but I usually will throw away the water that the fish were transported in as it tends to have a much higher ammonia content. Some people do this, some don't, each have had success.
i have moved my 120 and 125 a few times with little stress on the fish me is a different story. i use rubbermades, 60 gal ones and use them for fish and water moving makes it like a 50% water change. then do a few 20% changes the first few days and all should be well. ill move the fish then put a HOB filter and air on the rubbermade to make myself feel better and i guess it cant hurt. the HOB is cycled it is the emp400 i run on the tanks. and i just leave the water in my xp3s. goodluck.
