Okay, I'm finally going to get start with my DIY Wet Dry System. I will be plumbing it so it will filter all three of my tanks(150,100,75). I will be using a extra 100 gallon tank that I have. It will have the mechanical, chemical and bilogical medias as well as the uv sterilizers. And I will be using 3 fx3's to return the water to the 3 different tanks.

1st question- Will I be able to cut down on water changes because of a wet dry filter.

2nd question- will this be enough to handle all three tanks

All of your answers and ideas are greatly appriciated!!!!

1, no. The filters job is to turn ammonia into nitrate (which is removed with water changes or plants)

2, More than enough. The FX5 return will be unnecessary and a waste of money IMO. Since the ammonia should be converted by the time it gets to FX5 they'll be little more than a very expensive pump.

Oh I'm sorry I meant xp3's, I already had them plus got them next to nothing 70 bucks a piece brand new.

They're still just expensive pumps in that application :)

I think they would flow less than they would in a conventional canister setup because it's doing more lifting.

I am a big fan of the quiet one pumps. They're efficient, inexpensive, reliable, and quiet. Your method will work, but I would just stick with a regular pump.

yeah id just leave the xp3's on the tanks as extra filtering/polishing and get 2 maybe 3 pumps maybe one split to the 75 and 100 and a seperate for the 150 just to keep costs down or in a perfect world i would go one pump for each tank , quiet ones are good i got 2 of the 6000 models and got no complaints
