ok so i just got this guy. It's about 4 - 5 inches. the guy had it listed as a white piranha. honestly i dont know enough yet to know what it is but i paid $50 for it and about $200 worth of stuff including 30 gal tank, powerheads, filter, heater, etc so i bought a 60 gal filter and got the fish and a bunch of other stuff free. I'm just wanting to know what it is. He had about 20 goldfish with it that i took out so im curious how to get him off of goldfish since it is refusing other foods. Thanks

see if you can pm one of the mod and ask them to check on what's going on

That's a Serrasalmus Sanchezi. I believe it's the common red variant as mine is. They are nice fish! Mine was shy for the first month or so. I have him with my Reds and they seemed to bring him out of his shell.

i gonna say thats a purple variant sanchezi.... dont feed him for a few days and throw in some bite size shrimp or frozen white fish.... after few days not eating once he gets hungry he wil eat it.....

A Sanchezi is completely different than a Sanchezi. There was confusion at first but they're two different genus.

ok now im really confused.lol im gonna do some serious studying so i know the differences

Ahhh, I meant to say a Sanchezi is vastly different than a Spilo..

Your fish is a Serrasalmus Sanchezi. There are two common variance in color. One is red and the other is purple. Yours is the red variant.
