Ok i have a lovely sev. that protects my HRP from any danger  well thats not my problem my HRP is a female and im starting to be leave that my turquoise severum is a male. so 1st question is how do you tell male from female with sevs? is it like females have round fins males have pointy?
2nd question is if my HRP and sev do cross breed will any fry survive?

Thanks

The male sevs have a worm like pattern on their face. As for protecting, mine always seem to be the peacekeepers. When the midas and fh would square off, one of them would swim between and break it up.

VERY tough with severums. Finnage length isn't reliable. There are some that say you can tell by the number of squiggles on the face...males will have more. I haven't found that to be reliable either. I couldn't sex my group until they started showing their breeding tubes.

No idea about hybrids, sorry.

I agree with dragonfish my males all have alot of squiggles on thier face and my females don't.

ok thanks, if the fry do somehow survive i will feed them to gar and maybe keep one or two for display. thanks eveyone

if you dont cull feed them off, i will come to your house from Ct and do it for you, to many hybrids, just weakining the hobby,
personally, just get some more sevs or hrps if you want breeding to occur

i would only keep one or two for me i would never sell the rest would be fish food

i doubt they will breed, then further doubt the ability for the breed to be sucessful, then further doubt that it will look respectable to live in one of your tanks :)
it will be interesting to see how this all pans out
