I just purchased a new silver...about 3' long, no health issues, or anything along those lines..

But I am concerned about his roomies, he is in a big enough tank to support him, but right now I have 2 raphael cats, and a Bremis Pecalita, I am wondering what else I can put in as friends for him and to add some color:naughty:

Also, what are best bets for food, he eats the flakes right now that I give my angels :screwy: and will more than happily scarf down blood worms, but I doubt that will be enough shortly, as I know these guys grow very rapidly

You posted 3 foot, I am assuming you mean 3 inches? Best to keep your new aro without tank mates until it is 6" long. At 6 " a few non aggressive tank mates can be added. Once it is 11-12" you can start to add some aggressive tank mates as long as they are only half the length of the aro.

For foods you'll want to get it eating pellets a soon as you can. Once larger look to feeding frozen market shrimp or fish fillets along with the pellets.

Lol yes, I did mean 3 inches(sorry, been at family gatherings all day...needed a few drinks) and okay, is it normal for my him to just eat whatever? also, he doesnt seem to mind the angels and they only care about being fed, I was considering a few diciss but I am not sure it will do well

What exactly is "whatever"?

Anything that I have been putting in the tanks, regular community flakes, and blood worms. I know that blood worms are good for him, but what about the flakes, he doesnt seem to mind them. but only eats the red ones

Yes it is normal for an arowana to eat fish food.

Lol, re-wording that makes me feel kinda stupid. I had read that they can be pretty picky eaters, so I just wanted to question it. I am just concerned because he is my first Arowana, and I have only had him for 3 days and I am already attached to him :D. I just want to make sure everything is right so he can get big and strong. Any other tips?

Keep your tank lid very secure, leave no holes no matter how small. It sucks to find a dried up aro laying on the floor in the morning.

Start planning for a 300 plus gallon tank that is 8 foot long and at least 30" wide. You'll be needing this tank is about 2-3 years. Your aro will need to be in at least a 180g 6x2x2' tank in 12-18 months as it will then be 24" long.

thanks for the help, chances are I will skip the 180 gal and just get a 300, less purchases are better...right?
