So my stand has a piece of wood in the middle of the 2 doors which prevents me from pulling my canisters in and out without moving the whole stand. Is it alright to take the piece if wood in the middle of the 2 doors?

If that piece of wood is not very beefy, then it was probably placed there for the sole purpose of the doors. If so, then it would be fine to remove. If you are still want to remove it but want some extra assurance, then replace that piece of wood with a non attaching 2x4 and shims. That way, you have the support but still be able to remove the 2X4 for maintenances of the canisters.

I can see why you'd thing that, but on my stand, when I was setting up the tank, I had 4"of water in mine and there was enough weight on it I had to drain out 2" of the water out to pull the support. even then it was almost impossible to get back in until I emptied it.

The OP's stand has a lot more supporting material than your stand. His has 3 peices of support, each between 8"-10" wide, and with much narrower doors than yours. Your stand appears to have 4 peices of support between 2"-3" wide with much wider doors, so your stand is very dependent of those peices between each set of doors. I'm pretty confident the OP's stand won't have that sag issue since its not dependent of that support between the sets of doors. IMHO

When in doubt try to remove and see if it is carrying any weight, by the pic it seems the be just a mullion for where the 2 doors meet. If it is attached by screws remove them and try to take out the piece with the tank full, if it is not carrying weight you should be able to remove by hand ( without tools). It also maybe glued at which point with the tank full look at the top and bottom to see if there is a space between that board and the one it meets.

better up close pic of top and bottom to see what size and type of board it is and how its attached and structure of the stand would help. if just particle board or ply wood with laminate more than likes not an issue.
