I recently just put a 6" black rhom in a tank and he is very very shy, not what i was expecting at all. I have him in a 55g which is plenty big for him and have several pieces of drift and some plants. I have been taking them out little by litle so he can not just stay back there and not move at all, he isnt eating really and randomly will jus take all his power and just fly towards the top of the tank hitting my canopy...any suggestions? I have 2 other blacks and they are both fine...am i jus rushing things? I just got him last week, so perhaps in another two weeks or so he will be more active and swimming around the tank? I reach in with my net and i can put it on him and flat him down against the gravel, although he gets mad after like 5 seconds of that lol.
THanks

He is just a bit slow coming round to his new home conditions. Rhoms can be one the slowest to get adjusted and come out of their shell. Sounds like you got lucky with the other two.

But the way he is trying to jump out of the tank makes me think there is something wrong with the water stats. Piranhas only jump when they don’t like their current living conditions. Have you checked the water stats lately, maybe a piece of uneaten food is hiding in the tank somewhere?

Have you tried dimming the lights, adding a dark background, a few plants and maybe some blackwater extract? That will make him feel more secure, so you can gradually wean and adjust him.
