I'm Where I'm At
Can a single red belly piranha be kept with other predatory fish?? Let me know what your experiences are and if it's not a good idea, why??

Thanks!!

from what I have heard of rbp, they are total cowards when kept singly, and still skittish when kept in shoals

id think it would depend on the size.if the pirhana is full grown or large,it might be fine.if its smaller it might get bullied because of there cowardly nature when alone.but if its doing fine, then it should be fine.IMO i dont trust pirhanas with other fish.what are its tankmates??

the rbp will be about 2-3" and it will be in the tank with 3" scomb, 3-4" rocket gar, 5" needle nose gar, 6" zig zag eel, 5" fire eel

what do you guys think?

i've got a 5" rbp in with some 1 - 3" buck tooth tetra since it was 1/2" and i havnt lost a fish yet...... well apart from the odd guppy or molly and maybe a few goldfish have dissapeared from time to time:D

they just hide when i've seen them with agressive fish, dont no what mine will be like at adult size tho

I wouldn't suggest it. I'm not going to try and make the RBP's sound big and bad if they're not, so here's my reasoning:

I have seen a small shoal (3 fish) of RBP's beaten up by a pink convict!! The piranhas were 3"> the pink con was 2".

That piranha will either take a bite out of something you don't want it to (hunger or fear) or it'll be killed by your other fish.

It's actually a buddy of mine,.......... not my tank or fish,......... but I was thinking that the gars and eels will leave it alone, but not sure about the scomb. Anyone know about scombs??

^Nice save...LOL. derail...

Either way, I wouldn't suggest it. it's a waste of a perfectly good fish, and piranhas are illegal in Cali anyways.
