Hi. I would ;like to hear other people's opinions on this. I cannot make up my mind. I have a 480 gallon aquarium I bought several years ago from Aquart company. The measurements are : 8 ft long X 4 ft wide X 2 ft tall. The tank is well built, appears to be about 1 inch thick acrylic. The tanks only occupant at the moment is a 17 inch long leiarius pictus catfish. I have the chance to by a "true" Black pacu, P. macropomum. It is about 10 inches long. I want to know other's opinions on whether this fish could eventually bust the tank. I am very familiar with the eventual size potential of pacus. I was told the fish would "only" get about 12 inches tall and about 30 inches long. I think if the fish would outgrow this tank, it would be height wise, though it would take awhile. was thinking once it did outgrow this tank, I would do an indoor pond in my basement for it. I would have the resources to do it. My main concern is if it could pose a danger to breaking this tank. I have been a hobbyist for over 35 years. My gut tells me to pass on the fish, though I really want it. Will it bust this thick of acrylic? Thank you all for any comments or suggestions.
