About three weeks ago, I added two pearl gouramis in my 100 gal community tank, they are the same size (just over two inches), but one is very aggressive towards the other one. I'm not sure of their sex , as both have rounded dorsil fins.
To stop this agression do I need to return one to the lfs I purchased them from, or should I add maybe one or two more?:feedback:

I have had gourami's aggressive towards each other in my experiences, too. I'm not sure how to reduce their aggression, though. You could try moving one to the other size of the tank, considering how big it is, and maybe they will ignore each other when they cross paths. Not sure, though. Adding more might solve the problem.

Both seem to be females to me.

what exactly are they doing to each other that you see as aggression? my gouramis do this thing where they go side-to-side, but head-to-tail, and just kinda move in sync back and forth (sideways, aka laterally i guess) like they're dancing.

To thepbm,
The problem I'm seeing is that one (the same one) is aggressively chasing the other. No torn fins as of yet, but I have noticed that their anal fins are a little different. The aggressors seems slightly fringed where the other ones fin does not.
THank you to all the responders.

is the tank planted?
the fewer encounters that the two have the less agression they will exhibit. if they can clearly see each other from opposite sides of the tank then you will have one dead gourami in a matter of days. if the tank is heavily planted then you should be fine. i had two dwarf blues in a 75 for a long time before one died of ick (i think) it's the same principle with DP's

if the aggressor has a fringed anal fin that is the male will chase her to death mine did, try and give her somewhere to hide from the randy sod

The tank is lightly planted, with a fake driftwood stump and several caves.

If you think adding a few more might help, I can pick them up this week end.

Or do you think adding more plants might help? Right now I have live plants, but I can always add some artifical ones as well if you think that would help.

Either way, please let me know. First time getting these little monsters, and don't want to lose them now.

Thanks again, for all the help.
