Hi everyone...new here and just got a 300 gallon acrylic tank used for a pretty cheap price. The original owner had it setup as a reef tank so he has holes in the back panel for bulkheads for better water movement behind his reef. I've never really seen how this is all plumbed with all the holes...just wondering if anyone does something similar and can show me a pic of how these are all plumbed. There are about 14 holes in the back about 1.5" in diameter. Thanks....oh and here is a pic so you know what i'm talking about.

Thats a lot of holes to deal with. I have never seen a tank with that many holes and I feel pretty safe in saying that it was a very custom plumbing job. It looks like there may have been a closed loop plumbed in to circulate water around the reef. My guess is the old owner is going to be about the only peron that is going to have pictures of that! You have an overflow so you really dont need anyholes to feed a sump but you could use about 4/6 of those holes as returns to give you some nice circulation. You could also plumb in a closed loop UV sterilizer. After that, I'd find a way to close the holes off.

do you have the bulkhead fittings?
you can use the holes for closed loop applications.
- RUGF
- UGJ
- run extra filters for bio, chemical, mechanical filtration
- UV light
- and others

I would get my hands on some bulkhead fittings and then just cap them off if you are not using them, you never know when you may want to add something

I recommend getting fittings that have pipe thread, easy to cap and un-cap

Thanks for the info...I don't know how to get a hold of the original owner so I can't get pics from him.

Can anyone post a link to what bulkhead fittings I need with the threads? I've always run canister filters so this is all kind of new to me.

Also when you mean cap it off is there a screw on cap that goes on the outside of the bulkhead or am I looking for a plug that screws into the bulkhead fitting from the inside? Thanks again! Appreciate the help.

Thanks for the link...appreciate the help. Glad I was at least looking at the right product! haha! Kinda new to something this size!

Awesome! Thanks! Now is it ok to just cap one end or would it be wise to cap/plug both ends of the bulkhead (if this is even possible).
