I have read through many of the builds on here, and have a question. I am noob when it comes to cannister filters in general. My goal is to build approx. a 125 gallon plywood/acrylic tank, now with a cannister filter can I drill in the back for the 2 lines for the filter? do they make such connections i could use? is there a sticky on this? it will be a Chichlid tank, probably lake Malawi, or other colorful ones, do I need an overflow for this size tank? or is that for salt water? (told you, total noob here) I do have a 75 gallon Gourami tank, so Not totally clueless...LOL

Yes, you can drill in the back of the tank and run your canister lines through bulkhead fittings. Just make sure there are shut offs on the lines on the outside of the tank so you can clean the filter. I'd look at an FX5 filter. As far as overflows, you need those if you are planning a sump.
