so there are tubes that connect to my power heads that make the bubbles come out, but when their disconnected, water just flows out with no bubbles. My fish tend to hit my power heads and the rubber tubes comes off, stopping the formation of bubbles. My question is, if my fish knock the tubes off, will they still be ok to breathe and stuff? will they still have oxygen?

Trust me, you don't want those bubbles, because they can be really annoying. The bubbles don't help the fish breathe at all, that is a myth. Bubbles pop at the surface causing gas exchange. Powerheads make the water move, which also causes gas exchange, keeps the bottom stirred up, and helps the fish build muscle IMO.

Try 'glueing' the tubes on with a dab of silicone, just dry off the areas first (and don't get it inside the tubing :grinno: )

The bubbles major work is in gas exchange & breaking the surface tension of the water for both gas exchange and aeration. Some oxygen is exchanged while in contact with the water (hence the term 'gas exchange').

as posted, the myth is that the bubbles are doing the work... but what really is doing it is when the bubbles hit the surface and make the water move. your powerhead should do that by itself if its set up right

Oxygen is dissolved at the surface. I think running a powerhead to the point where bubbles are shot from the outlet aids somewhat in aeration, but not noticably when compared to the latter, bubble-less state. Personally, the bubbles annoy the **** out of me so I never run them.
