When do they start fading? I've got a female red texas that has not started to fade. Her color ranges from almost black to a light olive green color with an orange tint on her head. If she were to be bred with a faded red texas what would the resulting fry be like? Also if she were to be crossed to a fish with no fading gene would any of the offspring fade? Thanks, obviously I'm a noob to the FH and fading scene :grinno:

It varies. Some fade when they're as little as 1 cm, some don't fade until they're 8-9"(rare). Some may never fade at all. If you were able to find a fertile male RT, then the chances of having faded fry increases. It also depends on what fish you want to cross her with. Lets say you cross her with a Carpintis, the chances of the offspring inheriting the fader gene is there because the mother is a RT, but the chances gets decreased. Genetics is a tricky thing. Even though I'm telling you this, I am not 100% correct.

Ok thank you! She was paired up with my Syn but he was sold before they could spawn so I was just curious how the fry might have come out.
