Okay so I have always been old school with my filteration and bought the ones that hand on the tank that just have the filters you put in. Im wanting to buy the Rena xp3 canister and my main question is how often do you have to change the filter foam, micro-filtration pad and Bio-Chem Zorb advanced filtration media. I have always just put new filters in my other ones every month.
Thanks

Foam lasts along time and just needs rinsing cleaning every now and then. Have the same foam in mine for 5 years now. Micro filtration pads can clog fast depending on what you stock but you can buy it in sheets and cut to size. Much cheaper this way. The bio-chem i do not use and would suggest using some kind of ceramic ring in the middle and half the top tray. Bottom tray foam middle and half of top ceramic and last top half micro filter pads. They really are great filters in my eyes and easy to clean and maintain.

I hate both my xp3s. Get something else.

You seem to be in the extreme minority when it comes to the XP filters...

I like my XP4. I would agree with what slimmer said for the most part. I was using bio zorb and getting about a month or two out of them before I yanked them. Though I am now going to switch to purigen instead to do that since it is reusable.

Then they are not vocal really. I have not had any problems with them and read pretty much glowing reviews save for your comments. So who knows.

I've heard nothing bad about the XP3 and recommend them to everyone

Change the filter foam: Never. Just rinse and reuse.
Micro Filtration Pad: As needed, I'm using my original that's years old.
Bio-Chem Zorb: Once. Then throw it away and use Seachem Matrix. Never requires replacement.

You basically rinse the media and sponges every few months and plug it back in.

Clockwork, PM me your price I'll take those off your hands.
