I like to use salt for my fish if they have a wound or an ich outbreak. I use plain rock salt(since it's cheap!) and had a question about measuring it. Usually I measure it before I grind it up into powder(much easier to mix into the water) but I was wondering if I should measure it after I grind it up. If I do that then I would be using more salt. How do you guys measure your salt? Do you grind it up before mixing it with the water? Also, can I use the salt that is made for salt water aquariums? Thanks!

I use pickling salt works good and it's cheap! I don't grind it up I just use 1 tablespoon to every 5 gallons of water if necessary. No need to grind it up I just put it directly In the tank works for myself

Make sure the salt you end up using does not have anti-caking, in large enough doses that stuff is lethal.

I use the same method as aquarium salt, essentially the same thing. 1tbsp/5gal, dump into wet/dry to dissolve, some fish are less tolerable of it when dumped into the tank.

I tbsp per 5 gal, I pre disolve in a cup of tank water then pour into the tank. The salt for sw aquarium is much more expensive and carries different properties to it as its ment for sw fish, not fw.

If treating for ich, I dump rock salt by the cup into an overflow or sump. It dissolves a bit more slowly, and doesn't create osmotic shock until it reaches 3parts per thousand.
