question about shovelnose catfish

how many different species of a shovelnose catfish are there? my lfs has some 6inchers n i always wanted a catfish. i can't find any baby rtc's so i was thinkin maybe i could jus get a shovelnose. how big do they get. whats the average cost on them? im also asking because i wanna make sure its actually what it is because we all know how lfs's are at times. listing fish as different species at times. thanks guys.

There is a Tiger Shovelnose (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum) and a Lima Shovelnose (Sorubim lima). The TSNs get to over 3 feet long and the Lima gets to a little over a foot.

In addition, there are juruense, planiceps and tigrinus shovelnose cats. Make sure you know what it is because some of these guys get huge.
 
Very Aggressive "Sit n Wait" Predators too.. They get very big, EVEN the Lima. They can swallow very large prey items, so be careful who you put in iwth him, unless you want a Expensive snack. But go for it, nothing beats a Tiger Shovel..:nilly:
