I have never had real plants in my tank before and I am trying it out today bought 2 plants from my lfs and forgot to ask someone about snails. I have the 2 plants in my 5 gal hex tank and i noticed there was a small snail in was in my tank, are they good for plants or bad. I have snails in my other tanks but I think my fish are eating them so I dont care if they are in my tanks with the fish. Was wondering if I should worry?

Howdy,

as long as your snails don't overpopulate the tank: Don't worry. You can keep them under control by adjusting how much you feed your fish - prevent leftovers. Some snails attack plants nevertheless, e.g. ramshorn snails and sometimes apple snails. Other snails will never even touch a plant, e.g. trumpet snails. Relax, but keep an eye on them. I actually like snails in my tank as a back-up cleaning crew and for biodiversity.

Congrats to the great decision of adding live plants to your tank
