Will it be okay for me to use the stand from my 125g tank for a 225g tank with the same length dimension? (6ft) or will it be too heavy for it? the stand is pretty old and i'm looking to purchase the 225g but doesn't have a stand with it.

They're both 6ft in length, however I don't know how you could add another 100 gallons of water without increasing both the width and height of the tank. Plus, adding another 100 gallons will probably add 800-1,000lb to the tank. Do you really want to risk it, even on the off chance that the dimensions fit the stand? That'd be quite a mess to clean up because you didn't want to buck up for a new stand or reinforce your current one.

it's not that i don't want to get a new stand. i'm just wondering if it'll hold i'll keep it, if not i'm gonna get rid of it. thanks for the info. guess i'll be needing to build one.

I looked at common dimensions. 125s tend to be 72" L x 18" W and 225s that are 72" L are 24" W so the stand still wouldn't fit the footprint of the tank.

reinforce the stand using 2x4 verticals. Those prefab stands are make with real thin wood. If you put 2x4 legs in all the corners and a 2 more in the front somewhere betwwen doors and 2 in the back, it will hold

sounds like a good idea but i'll probably make one out of 2x4 anyways. i don't want to come home with water and fish all over the floor.

It's always better to play it safe rather than guess and hope for the best. Build a stand for the new tank and sell or trade the old stand for stuff you need in the new tank!
