Question about stinger cover on new rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The rays will shed them so no need to attempt to remove. Post some pics of your rays.

Everyone's different. I remove them while dripping. I used to leave them on but they seem to get pretty nasty, puss and blood, then infection, followed by bacteria.

Both are very good points, you will just have to make up your mind what you want to do.

I personally leave them on and watch them closely. if the stinger seems to be getting nasty then i remove but ive never had it happen.

Shouldn't need to catch the ray, just get a pair of needle nosed pliers and grab the tip of the tube. They ray will probably feel this and move away and the tube will just pop off. If it needs more force, use 2 pair of pliers with the second down on the exposed part of the stinger to stabilize it as you pull off the tube.

I cut mine off length wise with a fine tip exacto knife. Obviously it takes some skill and experience but i use a scaple at work on a regular basis. Leaving them on is a great way to cause an infection.
