I just purchased two new marble motoros last wendsday, and they still have the tube on the stinger.. Do I have to take this off, or just wait untill they shed stingers?
Everyone's different. I remove them while dripping. I used to leave them on but they seem to get pretty nasty, puss and blood, then infection, followed by bacteria.
Ok thanks for the replys, Im gonna do a water change later today so I will try to catch the rays when they bury under the sand and pull the tubes off... Will also try to get some pics!!
Shouldn't need to catch the ray, just get a pair of needle nosed pliers and grab the tip of the tube. They ray will probably feel this and move away and the tube will just pop off. If it needs more force, use 2 pair of pliers with the second down on the exposed part of the stinger to stabilize it as you pull off the tube.
I cut mine off length wise with a fine tip exacto knife. Obviously it takes some skill and experience but i use a scaple at work on a regular basis. Leaving them on is a great way to cause an infection.
