I really want to keep some more aggressive cichlids like the red devils, jaguars, and maybe even a flowerhorn or a trimac (maybe). If I have a tank thats at least 125 possibly 150, coupld I house a couple or a few of these fish together for a good period of time??

I saw a guy on youtube who has 2 oscars, a flowerhorn, yellow labs, a green terror, and 2 plecos in a 75 (all of which are at least a foot besides the yellow labs). I am not learning the rights (more so I am learning the wrongs) of fishkeeping by videos off youtube, but how can a flowerhorn be housed with anything in a 75???

I was thinking maybe a red devil, a jaguar, and either a 3rd big fish (so the dominant one won't just beat up the non dominant one) or maybe some breeding huge convicts (those seem pretty aggressive).

both tanks are really too small, you might be able to get away w/ a syn (redhead), green terror, jack dempsey, chocolate ciclid, oscar (not all of them) since they are mild manner compared to some other cichlids, If you read some more posts you will see some members with tanks excess of 200 gallons with some large agressive cichlids co-existing, the question is for how long. Many of these fish will live together for months or years and then one day one may feel like extending its territory which results in torn fins or loss of life. If you want to roll with the "BIG DOGS" then save up an either build a larger tank or by one. I hope this helps.

Well you can fit 2 or 3 big dogs in a 125. It just depends on the fish you get. If they are super aggressive like most FH then your not going to able to work it out. I am personally doing a Jag, Mota, Carpinte combo so I hope everything is ok. I would try it and see if it works out and if it doesn't return one or two. This is only if they try and kill each other. It's ok if they fight for dominance, but keep an eye when they do this incase of injury.

Alright I really REALLY want 1 fish that gets a nuchal hump...It doesn't have to be a flowerhorn I know there are many that do get them, but I really want a red devil, and a green texas (that carpinte or whatever).

I had a texas in my 75, and I wanted to keep him until he grew to a reasonable size, but he was 2 inches and terrorized the tank so I had to give him back to the lfs.

I really want a jaguar too, motaguense would also be another possibility...Really I just want some fish that are a bit more aggressive and bigger than my severums and salvini.

I don't want to get this big of a tank and just get one fish though, so if I didn't get a red devil could i get like a good size texas, a jaguar, and maybe an oscar? or a motaguense?

i have gotten away with 3 14"+ cichlids in a 125 before, so i'm sure you could to. but any more is really pushing it. i'd try, ethier a rd or a midas , a jaguar, and possibly a large O.

Ill join the group, you could getaway with 3-4 large in a 6' Long, 24" depth......

I'd Go Jag, RedDevil/Midas, and Texas........3 different species, Just have some target dithers.....I use Male cons in my more aggro tanks, and they work great!

Good Luck and keep us updated.

I think you definitely could if you do water changes like crazy. Try to get your
cichlids roughly the same size. That is the toughest part right there. Like everyone else said, watch for aggression. I keep a spare hospital tank like when my RD went nuts.

In my tanks i only do regular week water changes and everything is fine, you just need a decent amount of filtration. and i'd say get the less aggresive ones larger than the more agro ones.

If you want humpage get a midas and then you could probably also get away with a mota or texas then throw in large convicts for dithers. Or if you would like to breed you could get a pair of midas or jags in that tank. But i would definately suggest you get a texas the get larg and have stunning coloration and are aggro. They also develop nuchal humps although i dont think as big as the hump on say a male midas. But you do have quite a few options just whatever you like best.

Srry not trying to be a post whore but i just got an idea. If you want to get something large, aggressive, predatory, and will grow a nuchal hump i think that you could most likely get away with a single dovii, BUT ONLY if you can get your hands on a 150+ tank and have alot of filtration with frequent large water changes.
