Question about strawberry peacocks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a juvenile that I bought at Petsmart weeks ago. He now has dark spots on his head that are between his eyes. I'm guessing he's not pure? Its not a disease

Strawberries and other hybrids are never pure. There is only one quality difference in the selection.
Pictures might help.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard that strawberry/ dragonblood peacocks were bred by selecting the OB morph for less and less black spotting. In my experience with breeding quite a few of them, I have often seen black specks on their heads in particular, but sometimes spots elsewhere on the body. The albino morph would hide that, so even if the breeder were selecting away from any black pigmentation, they could only make progress with non-albino fish.

It's not uncommon for light or brightly colored fish to exhibit dark pigment spots or blotches.
