I really want to make one for my 75 to give it ample filtration. The only thing is that I understand how to build the actual sump, but it is bringing the water from the tank to the sump that baffles me.
I have seen one diy that used a powerhead to draw the water from the tank to the sump, but wouldn't that only filter like a portion of the tank? Shouldn't there be something at multiple levels taking the water in from each level of the tank or at least at opposite ends? I understand how to make it flow through the media, but i just don't understand how to draw the water out from the tank into the sump.
And am I confusing an overflow with a sump when I believe you can pump the water into the sump just by having holes drilled into the back (Usually in the back bottom corners with those pvc pipes sticking out of them right?)
Then I just use a pump no the end to push the water back into the tank correct? and I could add a pvc pipe bar across the top with holes drilled in it that could agitate the water then. (i hope)
I just really want to get this right before I jump into it. I guess I could start making the sump, but I want to make sure I can get it to function properly before I put all the effort into it.
