question about tile bottom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used about 60 tubes of silicone lol.even caulked the grout lines with it,took way longer and spent alot more but at least i knew the silicone was safe vs grout could and probably contains some sort of chemicals .but it does take alot of experience to use silicone to fill in the grout lines.its easy to make a mess and their will be alot of lines to fill!

I would try to avoid using tiles due to the fact that bio and other things can build up under the tiles and eventually kill off ur fish...

ahhhh well i can use a silicone gun ok haha plus matt my tank aint as big as yours...
but ya i was hoping i could do it without emtying the tank haha.. guess it'll have ot wait

there wouldnt be a build up if it is flush with the glass tho no? or i guess siliconed it wont anyways

I use plain jane ceramic tiles layed flat against the glass on the bottom. I never bothered to silicone or grout anything. Every month or two I'll lift up the tiles and siphon out whatever crap gets under there, but for the most part, my fish keep all that suspended in the water column for the filters. I've never had a problem and kept some of the most difficult species successfully in my tank (Bagarius sp, Tigrinus, rays, arapaima, gatf, etc). Do it!

so it is safe to just rest it on the bottom? the rays or other fishes can lift it or anythign to damage the tank? i found a friend wiht a tile saw so ima try this out lol

Its fine dude.if your worried wash them I'n hot water first.no real need to though.

It will increase your tanks water hardness and possibly maintain are high ph or raise your ph a bit between water changes.

Make sure they are natural not fake.some fake natural stone is just cement and all types of plasticizers and bonding compounds.that's all i know about tiles but it's real easy to tell if they are real stone just look at the back of the tiles and the sides
