Does anyone know of any turtles that don't need half water, have air? In other words, are there any turtles that can stay underwater forever? I'm looking for one to put in my 55, but don't want to bring the water level down and add a floating log for one. I just want a turtle that can stay underwater and come up for the occasional breath.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

there really isn't a turtle that will fit that description and also fit in that size tank...things like FRT need significantly larger quarters

Stinkpot musk turtles don't need to bask all that often, so they may work. You are still going to make sure there is a few inches of air for it to breath though

They are kind of small though, and may wind up as food for larger fish. What is your fish stock?

+1 on fly river being the only one that completely fits but the tank would be too small...

would you be willing to change your expectations from full 18" deep water... to a more realistic 16? Then you can get a variety of turtles that will fit... or you can attach an above tank platform and get even more :)

Even the musks and stinkpots need something to get up onto to get out of the water, and do occasionally bask. FRT need a pretty large setup and also they need someone that is pretty experienced with keeping turtles.
