Does anyone know of any turtles that don't need half water, have air? In other words, are there any turtles that can stay underwater forever? I'm looking for one to put in my 55, but don't want to bring the water level down and add a floating log for one. I just want a turtle that can stay underwater and come up for the occasional breath.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

None. At least not for a 55. And I'm not sure why you posted two threads.

LMAO, that'll get you help.

I posted the two threads so people viewing the general aquaria, and reptile forums can see it. There sure are a lot of kind, helpful people on this site.
Only since I have now fixed your statement will I answer your question. There are turtles that stay underwater, but none of them should be kept in a 55 gallon tank.

-Fly River Turtle
-Mata Mata Turtle
-Alligator Snapping Turtle
-Common Snapping Turtle (Though there is a bit of dispute over whether this one needs land or not.)

Another thing to take into account is that not too many turtles are small enough to keep in a 55 for their entire lives. A general rule for turtles is ten gallons for every inch of carapace length, so a 55 could at most hold one 5.5" turtle.

If you add some floating plants or tall decorations that allow for a sort of resting place at the surface just below the water level mud and musk turtles can be kept. I have seen them in wholly aquatic setups many times and they do not get too big. Maybe look into some of them.

Also, next time you should post a question like this in the main forum instead of the media lounge. You will get more responses that way. And you broke the terms and conditions when you posted an obscenity (even if you replaced one letter). That will not get you responses at all.

get a mega tank and get Fly River Turtles, Then youll get you back the respect you lost for calling us A*holes. But start saving ALLL your pennies, nickels, quaerters, dollars, 20's, C-notes, maybe trade in the title to ur car, deed to ur house...

Some people help more than others, youll find out who you click with..

FRT are the best turtle that do not need land. Tons of personalities in those little buggers.
AST are like just like wolf fish, inactive and boring to watch until feeding time.

You need a massive tank for a FRT. They get up to 70 cm across the shell.

Love my Mata!! Lives with my many fish in my 150 tall.....Not cheap or easy to find....A young one could live in a 55 for a few years. They do reach close to 50lbs after 15-20 years though.
