I think of start using uv sterilizer in my ray tank. Please give me advice.

1.) Is it essentail?
2.) Advantage and Disadvantage
3.) How to use
- range of opening time.
- suitable size of uv sterilizer for 327 us gallons tank
4.) I ever heard that uv sterilizer also kill good bacterias in our tank biological system. Is it true?

thank you very much :)

Yes, definetly run one. I have a canister filter with a 9 watt UV on one tank and internal UV sterilizer on another tank with a 9 watt as well. A UV sterilizer will not kill your biological filtration. UV's only kill stuff that is in the water and only the stuff that gets sucked into them. They will not kill bacteria that is living on the surfaces of your tank. A 9 watt would work for your tank. If you can get a good price on a 13 watt, then get the 13 watt.

UV should be on everyone's tank imo.
9 watts would be too small for such a big tank
the effectiveness of the UV depends on flow rates, there is a formula to work out exactly what you would need but buy the biggest you can afford with a minimum of 30 watts.

Can you post this formula? I would love to upsize mine.

T=a(G/F)

T = hours of sterilization required
G = Gallons in tank
F = Sterilizer flow rating
a = Purity coefficient ( usually taken as 9.2 to purify your water to 99.99%)
4 times turnover per day is desirable.

This man speaks the truth. I love Emporer UV products. I spent part of last week with one of their company reps.
