I just bought a used coral life 36watt turbo twist UV sterilizer for my 125g and I wanted to know what size pump I should use. I know you need a relatively slow flowing pumping to make sure that the water stays in contact with the bulb as much as possible, but how slow?

I have a marineland c-220 rated up to a 55g that flows 220 gallons per hour. Can I just hook it up to this canister filter? Is 220g per hour to fast? Hoping I can avoid buying a pump.

Thanks everyone.

By the way, its a 12x model. It could be overkill for my 125, but it was a good deal!

should go with 18watt because 36 watt too much doesnt work

I would just hook it into your canister as the 36 watt is overkill so the flow rate being fast is just fine.

Are you running HOBs for the rest of the filtration?

Ive got an FX5 and an AC110 and penguin/emperor400. I'll probably take the emperor off and put it on my 75g.

Hmm on second thought that 36watt is way too strong. You should send it to me for my 125 gal.....lol

If anything though that marineland canister might even be the right flow rate for the UV for what you have going. Its not that fast...

yes i am lazy! you know me too well. What are the dangers, if any, of putting this sterilizer on my 125? Is it going to kill my cycle?

I got some hybrids im growing out and my male carpintis and a few la ceiba yellow heads too. I'm thinking about selling my EB rams. You interested?

I don't know if there's any "danger"....your good bacteria should mostly stay in the filter media or substrates, etc. I have UV on two of my tanks and quite honestly, I don't see a difference.

how many rams do you have left and how much do you want for them? thinking about getting some dithers if they are cheap enough ;)
