Question about venustus

I ordered a 3 1/2" dominate male venustus off line. I was just wondering at what size will he start to get his blue face he has grown some he may be around 4" now

If he was actually a dominant male, he would already be colored up - But, there is no such thing as "buying a dominant fish."

Once in your tank - he will have to squabble with other fish to decid who is dominant.

It varies with the individual fish, also food and water can have an effect as does what else is in the tank. Some can start coloring at 3 inches, others bloom later on. Same with a lot of Malawi species, some color early, some don't.
